The Food Fortification Research Committee has continued to work on fish sauce fortification with NaFe EDTA in Vietnam in collaboration with the National Institute of Nutrition in Vietnam. An efficacy study using anemic women to confirm the efficacy has recently been completed. A subsequent community-based trial is scheduled to begin in 2001. The technology for fortifying rice by coating it with micronutrients has been developed and can be used in Asian rice cooking practices. The coating technology has also been successfully completed. A stability test of coated rice is underway and will be completed in 2001. A field trial is planned in some Asian countries in 2001.
